In 2015, Jon Imparato, the Artistic Director at the LA LGBT Center, produced a 5-weekend run of D'Lo's 3rd solo show, D'FunQT (pr. defunct), which was directed by Ken Sawyer. Mark A. Brown, a writer from incredible shows like Designing Women and Girlfriends, was invited to see the show. Mark loved it, asked if D'Lo would be interested in writing a series together, and D'Lo said yes!

Almost a year and some obstacles later, D'Lo and Mark finished writing 3 "back door pilots" under the name PRIVATE DICK. The premise of the series about a private detective, based loosely on D'Lo's life and stand-up material, came to be after Mark saw clips of D'Lo's character work.

In late-May 2016, Ken Sawyer was asked to direct the series and Aderisa Productions, Adelina Anthony and Marisa Becerra, came on as producers along with Karla Legaspy as production coordinator.  Who better to work with than the artists you have been working with for over a decade!

The crew was comprised of creative young men from Mark's classes at InnerCity Filmmakers. The cast was decided upon by Ken and Mark from the pool of incredibly talented actors that everyone suggested.

Monday, October 24th, 2016 marks the premiere of Private Dick along with a stand up show by D'Lo at the Renburg Auditorium at the LGBT Center. We hope you make it out!
